There’s a whole category of Halloween decor that skips the gore and goes straight for cozy, and this Farmhouse Halloween Crochet Gnome is exactly that. He trades skeletons and cobwebs for a pointed witch hat, a wild faux-fur beard, and a little cluster of fall foliage tucked into the brim — the kind of decor that looks just as at home next to your pumpkins as it does on a Halloween mantel. The free crochet pattern can be found right here on the page, or you can pick up a printable PDF available for purchase in the shop.

This halloween crochet gnome trades the usual black cat and cobweb look for something softer — a pointed witch hat, a faux-fur beard, and a sprig of fall foliage tucked into the brim. It’s Halloween decor that still feels like home.
Because the hat and beard do all the visual work, you can make one in an evening and have a whole set ready for the mantel by the weekend. He’s an easy handmade gift for a fellow crochet-loving friend, a fun addition to a fall craft fair table, or simply a new season for your gnome collection. Once you’ve made one, don’t be surprised if you want a matching pair.
About Our Halloween Crochet Gnomes Pattern
If your gnome collection has been missing a Halloween edition, this is it — and he skips the gore for something a lot more livable in your actual home. Instead of a mass-produced decoration, you get a one-of-a-kind piece with a fuzzy beard, a pointed witch hat, and a sprig of fall foliage tucked into the brim, all finished by hand. He’s simple enough to work up in one sitting, so you don’t need a big block of crafting time to have something to show for it. Set him out solo on a shelf, pair him with your other seasonal gnomes for a full lineup, or make a few as gifts for the pumpkin-spice lover in your life. However you use him, he’s proof that Halloween decor can be cute, cozy, and completely handmade.

- 6.5 mm crochet hook (Body)

- Stuffing
- Weighted Beads (Optional)
- Hot Glue
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
These Halloween crochet gnomes are very flexible when it comes to yarn choices making it great for using up scrap yarn from your stash. For the my medium gnome body I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in charcoal, and for the hats I used various scrap yarns from my stash.
The beard and nose are really what makes these little crochet gnomes adorable. I bought this set from Amazon which includes 15 beards in three different colors/sizes so I can make more gnomes (which I plan to do for all the seasons and holidays this year!) as well as the wooden noses.
I also added these weighted beads to the bottom of the body so they would sit nicely wherever I display them. A hot glue gun is the easiest way I have found to add the beard and nose, and of course you’ll need a little stuffing as well.
For the hat on this Halloween crochet gnome, I used Malabrigo Worsted — I love how rich and tonal the “dewberry” colorway looks once it’s crocheted up, especially on a piece like this where the hat gets to be the star. I finished it off with a bit of jute twine tied into a simple bow and a small cluster of faux fall foliage hot-glued right into place, which took the humble witch hat and dressed it up for fall.
If you want to substitute a different worsted weight yarn, that’s completely fine — just be sure to check your gauge and adjust your hook size as needed to keep your gnome true to size. Any color you love will work beautifully here, so feel free to make this pattern your own.

Halloween Crochet Gnomes Pattern Notes
This halloween crochet gnome pattern is built for anyone who wants Halloween decor with real farmhouse charm — sweet, not spooky. You’ll crochet a simple gnome body and a pointed witch hat, then finish the hat off with a jute twine tie and a cluster of faux fall foliage. From there, a wooden bead nose and a faux-fur beard complete the classic gnome look. The crocheting itself uses basic stitches from start to finish, so there’s no tricky shaping or fuss — just steady, satisfying rounds that come together fast.
The only seaming involved is attaching the feet, but you can skip that step entirely for a completely no-sew gnome. Simply leave the feet off and your gnome will stand just as proudly on his flat base.
This pattern recommends using the magic ring to start crocheting in the round. Learn how to make a magic ring with our tutorial here.
