Easter is one of those holidays that begs for small, thoughtful details — the kind that make your table feel intentional without requiring a weekend of prep. A set of crochet egg covers does exactly that, tucking right into your existing décor while giving it that cozy, handmade charm.

Once you make one, you’ll want to make a dozen! This pattern works up quickly, making it a great weekend project you can finish in just a few hours of relaxed crochet time.

Recommended Supplies

  • About 10 yds; Medium-Weight (#4) yarn per egg cover
  • 4 mm crochet hook (Hat, buckle and band)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

This pattern is a perfect scrap buster. Because crochet egg covers are so small, you only need a small amount of yarn to finish one — which makes this a great opportunity to dig into that stash and use up what you already have on hand.

Cotton yarn is an ideal choice for this project. It holds its shape well, has a nice stitch definition, and gives the finished cover a crisp, clean look. I used Lily Sugar’n Cream, which is widely available, affordable, and comes in a huge range of colors — including plenty of springy pastels that are perfect for Easter.

That said, don’t feel limited to what I used. This is a low-stakes project, so it’s a great chance to experiment. Try a different cotton yarn you’ve been wanting to test, mix and match colors for a coordinated set, or grab whatever worsted weight scraps are calling your name. The small size means you’ll find out quickly what you love — and it won’t cost you much time or yarn to find out.

Crochet Egg Cover Pattern Notes

This crochet egg cover pattern works up in no time — most crocheters can finish a single egg cover in under 20 minutes, making them ideal for last-minute gifting or whipping up a whole basket full before Easter morning. The simple construction means even beginners will feel confident from the very first round.

Worked in continuous rounds with no seaming required, each egg cover comes together with minimal fuss and maximum charm. Cotton yarn gives the finished piece a clean, polished look that’s as pretty on the table as it is practical.

This pattern recommends using the magic ring to start crocheting in the round. Learn how to make a magic ring with our tutorial here.
