Recommended Supplies
- About 98 yds per hat, Super Bulky Weight Yarn (#6); Lion Brand Feels Like Butta Thick & Quick (Color A: Antique White, Color B: Willow)
- 10 mm Crochet Hook or size needed to obtain gauge
- Faux Fur Pompom (optional)
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
Lion Brand Feels Like Butta Thick & Quick is a great yarn choice for this hat, but I’ve also made one using Bernat Softee Chunky yarn and it turned out beautifully as well. This hat looks just as great in one color if you prefer a simpler style or don’t have two colors on hand!
Feel free to experiment with different super bulky weight (#6) yarns for this pattern! It’s very flexible, and so far, I haven’t found a yarn that didn’t work or that I didn’t love! Just remember to check your gauge and adjust your hook size if needed.

How to Finish Your Chunky Crochet Hat
Step 1: Fasten off leaving about a 14” tail. Then thread the tail on a yarn needle.
Step 2: With the yarn needle and tail, weave in and out of the last round stitches to create a drawstring closure.
Step 3: Pull the tail to draw up and close the crown. Then use the yarn needle to work the tail around the opening to secure the closure.
Step 4: Make a 3” pom pom with a pom pom maker, make one by hand, or use a premade faux fur pom pom. Attach it to the crown of the hat.
Step 5: Weave in any remaining ends.
