Whether you’re starting your first fall project or need a quick crochet gift, this boho and chic hat is perfect!

We use a lightweight yarn with a large hook, so it works up fast and is light enough for those warmer fall days. It’s made with some of my favorite simple but fun stitches, and it’s a breeze to create.

In this easy-to-follow guide, I’ll show you step-by-step how to crochet this quick and simple hat.

About Our Boho + Chic Crochet Hat Pattern

This lightweight hat is made in easy rounds using a large crochet hook to give it that airy drape. It’s the perfect project for that one skein of fine weight (#2) yarn you’ve been saving for something special.

Recommended Supplies

  • 142 yds Fine Weight Yarn (#2)
  • 6.5 mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

I’ve made this hat with almost a dozen different yarns from my stash, and each one turned out a bit different. If you’re unsure if the yarn you want to use is fine weight, check out this yarn weight guide to be sure. While cotton or acrylic blends work, I love using animal fiber blends for hats. Just make sure your yarn is fine weight (#2). Anything thicker could make the hat too big.

For the hats in the pictures, I used two very different yarns. The green yarn was tonal, with light and dark sections, which created an interesting color pattern. For the taupe hat, I used a solid yarn with a bit of stellina sparkle.

You’ll notice the stitch pattern really pops on the solid taupe hat, while the color pattern is more noticeable on the green one. Keep this in mind when picking your yarn!

Pattern Notes

This crochet hat is crocheted in simple spiral rounds starting with the crown, and working down to the band which you’ll crochet last. Each round is crocheted in a spiral so there are no joins at the back. It’s best to mark the first stitch of every round so you know where you are in the pattern.

Gauge: To check your gauge, crochet the first 4 rounds of the crown. It should measure about 4.5″ in diameter.

Finished Size: This hat is very stretchy so it’ll fit 18″-22″ Head Circumference

If you need to adjust your hook size so that your first 4 rounds measure about 4.5″ in diameter, it’s best if you do so that way the hat will turn out the size you expect.

Not sure what gauge is? Check out our comprehensive guide to learn all about it here.
