Finished Size | 4.5″ diameter, measured from petal tip to petal tip
Crochet sunflower coasters are one of those small projects that look far more impressive than the time they take. A dark center ringed with golden petals gives you a flower that sits on the table all season, and you’ll love crocheting every single round.
They’re a good fit for fall decorating, Thanksgiving tables, and handmade gifts. Once you’ve finished the first one, the rest go quickly. Each coaster takes about 30 minutes, so a whole set is an easy weekend project.

Recommended Supplies
- Any Medium-Weight (#4) Yarn, about 15 yds of color A, and 10 yds of color B
- 4 mm Crochet Hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
For my crochet sunflower coasters, I used Bernat All Day Cotton in colors “coffee bean” and “golden” and they are just the perfect hues for a sunflower. I love cotton for coasters because it’s durable enough to handle regular use and absorbs condensation from cold glasses and hot mugs. It also holds its shape well, so the petals stay flat.
You can swap in any medium weight yarn that you like, and it’s a good use for the scraps in your stash. If you change yarns, work up the first 4 rounds and check that they measure 3.25″ across. If your circle comes out smaller or larger, go up or down a hook size until it matches. Your coasters will then come out at the right size.

Crochet Sunflower Coasters Pattern Notes
You’ll start each coaster with a magic ring, and if that technique is new to you, my magic ring guide walks you through it step by step. From there you’ll work in joined rounds, closing each one before you start the next. The chain at the start of every round counts as a stitch, so include it when you count your stitches at the end of each round. The brown center comes first, and the golden petals finish the edge for 10 petals all the way around. Your coaster should lie flat when you’re done and doesn’t need blocking, though a little steam never hurts if you want extra-crisp petals (my blocking guide covers how).
Gauge: First 4 rounds = 3.25” diameter
Finished Size: When finished, this coaster will measure about 4.5” from the tip of one petal to another.
