Gauge

6 V-Stitches and 8 rows = 4″ worked in pattern V-Stitch.

Before you begin, check your gauge to make sure your blanket turns out the right size. Even if you’re using the recommended yarn, this step will help you decide if you need to change your hook size.

To Make a Gauge Swatch:

  1. With the recommended hook size, chain 23. Make 2 dc in the 5th ch from hk. *Sk 1 ch. Then make 2 dc in the next ch. Rep from * to the last 2 ch. Sk 1 ch. Then make 1 dc in the last chain. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), and turn.
  2. *Make 2 dc between the next 2 dc. Rep from * to the last st. Then make 1 dc in the last st. Ch 3, and turn.

Repeat the last step until your swatch is about 5” from the starting edge.

When measuring your gauge, align your ruler closer to the bottom of the row and see if you can count 6 v-stitches in 4″ like you see here:

If you count more stitches per inch, go up a hook size and try again.

If you count fewer stitches per inch, drop down a hook size and try again.

Striped Crochet Blanket Pattern Instructions

Row 1: With Color G, ch 125(107, 125, 143). Make 2 dc in the 5th ch from hk. *Sk 1 ch. Then make 2 dc in the next ch. Rep from * to the last 2 ch. Sk 1 ch. Then make 1 dc in the last chain. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), and turn.

Row 2: *Make 2 dc between the next 2 dc. Rep from * to the last st. Then make 1 dc in the last st. Ch 3, and turn.

Cont with row 2 as the repeat for the entire pattern. Break color G and join color A after 4 rows. Then use row 2 as the stitch repeat to work the stripe pattern. See the chart below for the stripe pattern for each size.
