Not only can pre-made garland be a bit pricey but there’s something truly enjoyable about crafting your own using the yarn you already have.
For this pattern, I recommend using a super bulky yarn and a large crochet hook, ensuring the garland has the perfect texture and size. However, don’t worry if you want to experiment with different yarns – the pattern is versatile enough to accommodate various yarns with a simple hook size adjustment!
This straightforward guide will walk you through the uncomplicated steps to create this lovely garland effortlessly.
About Our Simple Crochet Garland
This easy crochet garland has a cool way of being made. It’s a bit like Tunisian crochet, but it’s totally different from anything else I’ve tried. But don’t worry, just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s hard – making this crochet garland is as easy as pie.
Using two colors makes it stand out, but you can stick to one color for a solid garland too. Put it on your mantle, wrap it around your Christmas tree, stick it on the wall, or turn it into a yarn wreath…there are tons of clever things you can do with it!

Pattern Notes
This easy crochet garland pattern works up over a short row of stitches that are pulled together to form a rope during the crocheting process. You’ll need to release active stitch loops so working undisturbed on your lap or on a table is a big help.
You can use any bulky weight (#6) yarn you have, but you may have to adjust your hook size to get the drape you want.
Since the stitch gauge is nearly impossible to measure in this project, you’ll have to rely mostly on the row gauge to achieve the same size and drape you see in the photos.
Gauge isn’t super critical for this project though. Work up a few rows and if it has enough bounce to it, and you’re happy with how it looks, keep on going!
Gauge: About 26 rounds = 12″ worked in stitch pattern.

Finished Size: About 1″ in diameter, and as long as you want!
To Figure Out How Much Yarn You Need for Your Crochet Garland
You’ll need about 7 yards total per foot of garland. If you use two colors, that’s 3.5 yards per foot.
So for a two-color crochet garland, multiply 7 by the length (in feet) you want it to be. Then divide that number in half to see how many yards of each color you need.
For a single-color crochet garland, just multiply 7 by the length (in feet) you want it to be, and that’s how much yarn you need.

Step 1: With color A, Ch 3. Insert your hk in the 2nd ch from the hk, YO, and pull up a loop (leave loop on hk). Insert your hk in the last ch, YO, and pull up a loop. Carefully remove the last two loops from the hook, but don’t disturb the loops.
Step 2: Loop color B around the hk and pull through the loop. Insert hk in the next loop of color A, YO, and pull up a loop with color B. Insert hk in the next loop of color A, YO, and pull up a loop with color B.
A digital pattern is available in our shop so you can print out the pattern

Step 3: Carefully remove the last two loops of color A from the hook. Make sure color A is underneath color B. YO with color B and pull up a loop. Pull it tight enough that it pulls the two ends together to make it round.
Step 4: Remove the last two loops of color A from the hook. Make sure color B is underneath color B. YO with color A and pull up a loop. Pull it tight enough to make it round.
Repeat: Repeat the last two steps until your crochet garland is as long as you want it, and continue to the finishing instructions.
Finishing Your Crochet Garland
Step 1: Make sure you have color A loops on the hook when you’re ready to fasten off. That way it will match the beginning of the garland. Trim both color A and color B yarn, leaving a tail that’s long enough to tie it to where you want to hang it.
Step 2: Keep the loops on your hook. YO with color B, and pull through the first loop. Then pull that loop through the remaining two loops. Fasten off and tie a knot with the two colors.
