Making cute little crochet hearts is a fun project, especially for Valentine’s Day. Use them to decorate your table for a small gathering—or get creative with other ways to use them!
I love adding these hearts to baby blankets and hats for a sweet theme. You can also turn them into a heart bunting by attaching them to twine or use them as wall art in a picture frame. I’ve even tied them to gifts for a handmade touch!

Recommended Supplies
- Approx 12 yds Each; Any Medium Weight Yarn (Pictured: Mary Maxim Woodlands, Blossom)
- 5 mm Crochet Hook
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
When you learn how to crochet a heart with this tutorial, you can use alsmost any yarn you want. I tested it with all sorts of yarn scraps, from some of the fluffiest yarns to the bulkiest yarn I could find. They all turned out adorable!
While any weight yarn I used worked well, I preferred the look of medium-weight (#4) and bulky weight (#5) yarns the best. But have fun and experiment with the yarn you have!
After making lots of these crochet hearts, I found that using a hook one size bigger than usual for the yarn made the nicest looking heart, with less curl around the edges. So, feel free to play with your yarn and hook choices! They only take a few minutes to crochet, so you won’t spend too much time to get the look you want.

Pattern Notes
This adorably small crochet heart is currently available in one size only. You can change the size slightly by using a thicker yarn and a larger hook for a bigger heart, or by using a thinner yarn and a smaller hook for a smaller heart.
When you use a medium-weight yarn and the recommended hook size, your heart will measure about 4.25″ wide. If your measurements aren’t exactly the same, there’s nothing to worry about.
To make a bigger crochet heart: Use a bulky weight yarn and a 6.5 mm crochet hook
To make a smaller crochet heart: Use a lightweight yarn and a 4 mm crochet hook.
You can experiment with different yarn weights and hook sizes to change the finished size of your heart, and there’s no need to make any adjustments to the pattern. This is the easiest way to crochet a bigger or smaller heart.
